This is an interesting video about the Internet and technologies in general. The basic thesis is that we’ve gone from walled-garden computing platforms to “generative” do-anything platforms, now back towards walled-garden platforms. The iPhone SDK and the Facebook Platform aren’t really open. What happens when we let more and more get locked down, and why aren’t things open like the desktop computer was in the 90s?

The talk is an hour long with about 20 minutes of comments, but if you have the time it’s pretty interesting. I was installing LabVIEW.

MPAA chairman Dan Glickman applauded the House for passing the bill and expresses hope that it will move just as quickly through the Senate. “We applaud the members of the House of Representatives for passing the PRO-IP Act, H.R. 4279. It is a comprehensive, bipartisan measure that will strengthen our nation’s economy and generate more jobs for American workers by bolstering protections for intellectual property,”

I don’t agree that locking things down is good for the economy.

Reverse Scavenger Hunt

On Saturday, I will go to Boston all day. During the day, my goal will be to go around and complete objectives that might normally be part of a scavenger hunt. I will not, however, be on a scavenger hunt.

I will be on what I am dubbing a “Reverse Scavenger Hunt”. I will pretend I am on a normal scavenger hunt and ask people to do things that will make for a series of sweet photos.

My objective is twofold:
1. Get an opportunity to talk to a lot of random people 2. Get pictures of a lot of random people doing ridiculously amusing tasks that I come up with

I am taking suggestions for potential tasks. What is something [in Boston] you’d like to see a picture of?
