I watched “The Last Lecture” on the way home from work today. It is a very good lecture, and at the end it gets very powerful.
I really like Randy’s concept of “Head Fakes” - essentially things that people think they’re doing for reasons other than the benefits of why they are really doing them. For instance, no one plays youth soccer to become a professional soccer player, but to learn discipline, the importance of fundamentals, and teamwork. You don’t actually major in English to be a giant pool of literary knowledge, but to learn how to interpret and express ideas in a certain context. You don’t go to engineering school to learn the fundamental laws of thermodynamics, you do it learn how to approach and solve problems.
Wonderful lecture. Watch it, it’s worth the 75 minutes.
